Rebuilding the Wasteland in DayZ Badlands

We are incredibly excited about the latest DayZ Badlands dev blog and Week 76 drops an absolute bombshell for the upcoming expansion. Bohemia Interactive has officially unveiled the new "World Rebuild" system, launching as a playable milestone this October on the massive 267 km² desert terrain of Nasdara.

Unlike standard base building, this mechanic lets players actively repair damaged, static world infrastructure. In an arid wasteland where water is everything, dry or broken wells must be restored using scavenged mechanical parts.

We think this shifts the survival meta from pure scavenging to active reconstruction, creating massive new tactical hotspots and collaborative goals as squads fight over functional resources.

Each month we want to celebrate the hard work this community puts in to keep DayZ feeling fresh and new 13 years on!  Below are some of our favourites from the last month.

WOBO Talks DayZ 1.30  

This segues beautifully into @Wobo's latest deep dive! This one is for anyone who’s ever had their base flattened overnight and sworn they’d never trust a fence again. He digs into the confirmed codelocks coming with Badlands, showing how they’ll slot onto doors and gates without any of the faff we all expected. 

The bit that really got me buzzing was his breakdown of ruined buildings becoming fortifiable hideouts, turning those busted shells into actual strongholds if you bring the right materials. He lays out how raiding might shift once everyone’s tucked behind reinforced walls and honestly, it feels like base building is about to get a serious glow‑up across the whole game. 

ThingsWithAli Creates a Masterpiece 

@ThingsWithAli’s new adventure is wild. The kind of DayZ run where you think you’re building a cosy hideout and end up discovering you’ve accidentally created a nuclear labyrinth. His underground bunker starts as a simple trio base, then suddenly reveals hidden entrances, strange side rooms and secret routes perfect for online raid defence. 

Every time they think they’ve mapped it out, another passage appears and flips their whole plan. Mixed in with all that, the trio tries to dominate a brutal server, juggling scraps, paranoia and bunker upgrades while pushing deeper into the madness that only DayZ seems able to produce. By the end you can tell they’re barely holding it together, but that chaos is exactly what makes the whole journey so addictive. 

24 Hours on Official  

@Ar‑K’s new video is a slog through official, the kind of challenge that sounds simple until you realise how unforgiving those servers can be. He and his duo commit to surviving a full 24 hours, starting as total freshies and slowly clawing their way up the food chain. 

They bounce between towns, scrape together gear, dodge trouble and take every fight that feels even slightly winnable. The pair explore whatever the land throws at them, pushing deeper inland while trying to keep momentum without losing everything to one unlucky encounter. It’s raw, stubborn and full of that classic official tension that keeps you glued to the screen. 

Team Up Production 

@Goldn Rex and @Glaz have cooked up something properly unhinged in their latest team‑up, deciding that instead of building a base like normal survivors, they’d live inside a raided one and trick anyone who wandered through. They tucked themselves into a hidden spot above the wrecked base in one of the most competitive towns, listening to players stomp around beneath them with no clue they were being watched. 

Every encounter feels tense, every footstep a gamble and somehow the whole plan actually works. It’s sneaky, chaotic and exactly the kind of mad experiment you’d expect from two creators who thrive on pushing DayZ in weird directions. 

Zero Esseker is Back in a BIG Way

It's no secret that Esseker is one of our favourite maps on the podcast. As Dave says, it's very much a 'hype' map that has peaks and troughs in popularity.

Since the original creators of the map have adamantly declined to update the map further, we're eternally grateful for server owners continuing to map out custom areas and interesting changes.

That then leads us to @HappyBombs Zero Esseker server! Whilst there are many custom Esseker's out there, many struggle to be as clean and as developed as Zero's in our humble opinion. If you haven't already, check it out. If not for Esseker itself, the Zero servers in general.

FreshSpawns Join BI for DayZ in Real Life

@FreshSpawns have gone full vlog with this one, heading to the Czech Republic to walk the real‑world versions of Elektro, Cherno, Pusta, Mogilevka and the Stary red barn. About an hour outside Prague they kick off a five hour hike across the actual landscape that inspired Chernarus, and it’s surreal watching familiar in‑game routes come to life. 

They spot landmarks every DayZ player knows, comparing the terrain to how we sprint through it in panic during a wipe. Loads of creators have dreamt of doing this trip, but FreshSpawns actually pulled it off, turning a simple hike into a proper love letter to the game. 

Testing the New SCAR-H in Livonia 

Highlighted to us by Marks himself, @survivor47 takes on Livonia to test the newly added SCR 17 on the Experimental servers. Starting out as a struggling solo survivor before linking up with @IceMikeOfficial, the duo raid military zones in the hopes of taking the latest lead dispenser for a test drive.

Aside from the video, we think this might be one of the best thumbnails featuring the new gun! What are your thoughts?

Sing Me a Song Mr Skeezano Man

As a dear friend to the podcast, we will try to be unbiased in the following section. 

*Clears throat* @Skeezertron RULES!

Not only does Skeezer posses the pipes of a fallen angel, he's able to tell a story you, I and your friends can 100% relate to.

This is not your typical DayZ video, nor is it your typical DayZ song. Armed with a 6 string and a bag full of adventures, he rides into the wasteland like a true lone gunslinger, turning the brutal chaos of Chernarus into pure poetry. 

Muller’s Norwegian Chapter

"What on Earth is this?" I hear you, but just bear with me. @Muller has launched a second channel dedicated to documenting his massive life update and his debut video is incredible. Riding solo from England to Norway on his CFMOTO 450MT, Muller takes us on a raw, direct journey covering hundreds of miles through the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark.

Battling sheer fatigue, flickering headlights, and torrential rain before catching the final ferry to Kristiansand, it captures the unfiltered reality of long-distance motorcycle touring.

It is a bold new chapter and we want to wish him the absolute best of luck with his big adventures in Norway.

Video of the Month

We loved this Video so much in our Video of the Week section that we had to feature it here too. IceMike has been cooking again, and this time he’s gone full menace with the new SCAR-H on experimental. The moment he picks it up you can practically feel the gear fear evaporate, replaced by that smug confidence only a fresh high‑tier toy can give. 

He starts clearing out the server like he’s on some personal mission from the loot gods, snapping targets at silly ranges and bullying anyone daft enough to peek. The edit is slick, fast and properly chaotic, the kind of pacing that keeps your heart rate spiking even though you’re just watching. 

No surprise it snagged Video of the Week on Friendly DayZ Podcast episode 189, because it’s exactly the sort of unhinged, adrenaline‑soaked nonsense we all secretly wish our own runs looked like. 

ItZMaverick’s Last Stand 

@ItZMaverick jumps into the tail end of the wipe like a bloke who knows the clock is ticking and every scrap of loot suddenly feels priceless.

The vibe is pure end‑of‑season chaos, geared players roaming about looking for that final bit of glory before everything gets nuked. He pushes through the map with that trademark console confidence, bouncing between PvP scraps and defending what he’s built as if the walls might fall any second.

There’s a real tension to it, that feeling where one bad peek or one unhinged decision could end the whole run. It’s gritty, fast and exactly the kind of send‑off you want before the reset hits. 

Using Experimental for Good

@DRYFTR dives into experimental like a man on a mission, sprinting across half the map chasing rumours of the new weapon. It’s that classic DayZ energy where every freshie looks suspicious, every shed feels like it might hide treasure and every gunshot sends you straight into gear fear. 

What makes it fun to watch is how determined he stays, even when the server throws the usual experimental chaos at him. There’s a real charm in seeing someone grind it out, checking every dodgy barrack and praying the RNG gods finally bless him.

It’s the kind of scrappy adventure that reminds you why experimental is such a laugh. 

Becoming a Real Life Nomad

@NomadicZ has gone full nomad on PS5 with this moving truck base and it’s honestly one of the coolest bits of console ingenuity we’ve seen in ages.

The whole thing feels like a travelling bunker rumbling through the apocalypse, packed with enough supplies to make any coastal scrub jealous. His editing style keeps the pace tight, bouncing between close calls, cheeky looting runs and that satisfying moment when the truck becomes a proper mobile stronghold.

It’s the sort of idea you watch and immediately think, yeah, I’m absolutely stealing that next wipe. NomadicZ proves once again that console players can pull off some seriously creative chaos.
